What tools or materials did you carry on van or use that you don't now.
Here are some of mine. Thinking back I realise how little I knew stumbling along.
Gloss brushes in water pot. I stopped that early on. Terrible...
Red 1-2.5 inch meteor brush from Johnstone's. Bought loads and used to gloss doors when I was 19 with them. Lovely black bristles. What! Just thought it was best brush for gloss.
I also used to cut in with them as a lad and would shape bristles with scissors. Crazy.
Cheap unbranded masking tape. Won't touch that now.
Crown sold a stiff tang scraper that was longer than any other on market by a good 15mm. I bought many of them over a 15 year period. Don't own that type or size now.
Henry vac. Owned a few of them but not now.
Wooden bench to stand on. Used for years:whistle:
Harris brushes. Bought many over the years as the painting side of my work developed, but not now as naff. They always were though.
Push fit poll cage and pole. Stupid things. Cheap yellow sleeve long plie 9 inch used for everything.
Curtains and bedding as dust sheets

The best ones I had were giant curtains and stamped NHS , all pretty colours bought off eBay:facepalm:oh God..
Bags of any powdered filler from trade centre like tetrion :scared: I hated that stuff but stuck with it as correct product. Mixing in ice-cream tub or similar as I was copying others.

White spirit I don't carry or brushmate now.
Own brand trade caulk that was 99p per tube as it was cheap. Green scratch 120 grade by the metre. Not used that in years.
Pole sander. Thought that was the business:scared: cheep paper dust mask. Useless but that was the normal if you bothered to ware.

Yeah. I used to carry clout nails which I don't now. And a cork block for sanding. I just can't imagine using a pole sander now. I've sanded entire rooms with that thing, oh the dust.. also burning off a metal kettle. I tried that once and the smoke. Gee.. Was black and ended up throwing it away. Dusting brush. Anyone actually use one? I did for a while and tack cloth... @Tomcio I'm going to study that list. I use a few things on it still. That's some list though

Last week my customer came to me with a small slightly stiff artist brush and asked if I had anything that could rescue it. Gave it a quick sniff and assumed it was oil based.

Poped it in a small bottle of white spirit for a few hours and it was grand.

But I remember opening the bottle and thinking, this bottle is probably 7-8 years old and can’t remember the last time I opened it.

Few days later I went to remove some masking tape from windows I had blocked out with lining paper months beforehand. As you’d expect the glue residue has been baked on. I tried a whole arsenal of ‘special’ grease/grim/sticky residue removers I had at hand... none of them really worked.

Grabbed the white spirit and it just magiced it away with no effort at all.

Don’t use it for God knows how long, then twice in a week. It had been that long you forget how useful a product can be.... can’t say I miss the smell though.
