when you first read this thread some will think how unproffessional but sometimes this is the only way to get rid of edges on some papers and had it happen in the 90s to many times
the best way i found was to invest in some quallity coloured pencills i found they were better as you can sharpen them really fine . it worked for me hope it works for you @Spottie

I use conte crayons or charcoal. I use some abranet and make dust out of it then wipe it over the edges of the roll with my finger

Has anyone used black rattle cans with any success. Not had the nerve to try them yet myself but I know of those who use them

I used charcoal a few weeks back after reading @Designanddecor ‘s recommendation on another similar thread.

It did the job no problems

I be a bit late to join this conversation!!! I use soft pastels from specialist art supplies. Chalk is also good, but limited on colours. If very careful, you can touch in edges when paper is dry. Always best to do edges before pasting.

I know a guy that uses HVLP, says it gives a better finish than a rattler.
